AUDITION INFORMATION

upcoming auditions August 1, 2026

L.A. Bronze is an auditioned, semi-professional handbell ensemble that places an
emphasis on excellence in performance, and elegance and musicality in its
repertoire. We rehearse twice a month, the first and third Sunday afternoons, from
2:00 to 5:00. We alternate rehearsals between a location in Glendale and a location
in Long Beach.

Our 2026-2027 season will include our annual appearance with The Pasadena
Symphony in their Holiday Candlelight Concerts. This repertoire of three to four
pieces is performed from memory as there is no room in the performance venue for
tables or music stands.

L.A. Bronze will also present our first-ever Christmas concert. The inaugural
program will be a mix of full ensemble, small groups, and solo ringing. It is our
hope that this will become an annual performance tradition for us in addition to our
ongoing collaboration with the Pasadena Symphony.

In the spring, we will continue to perform a concert series in 3-4 locations within
the greater LA area. Music memorization is not often required; however, there may
be a need if a short processional is programmed as part of the concert.
If you love handbells and wish to be a part of an ensemble that loves ringing and
enjoys a good challenge, please consider joining us for the upcoming auditions on
August 1, 2026, at 10:00 am at our Long Beach location!

We ask that our ringers consider the following:

  • Experience playing handbells at an intermediate to advanced level is
required. An understanding and demonstration of handbell techniques
(ringing, stopped sounds, etc.) will be part of the audition sequence)

  • All members must be willing and able to learn their music outside our rehearsal time together.

  • All members must commit to our rehearsal and concert schedule.

    • Members are expected to schedule travel around our rehearsal schedule. The 2026-27 calendar will be included with your audition materials.

To Audition:

  1. Fill out the LA Bronze Audition Questionnaire.

  2. If your application is selected to move forward, you will be scheduled for a Zoom interview prior to the in-person audition on August 1.

  3. Four weeks prior to the audition, you will receive your audition music and
assignments. Two pieces will be sent to you to learn, and one piece will be sight
    read at the audition.

  4. The audition will be recorded. The video is only for internal purposes to help
identify any areas in the audition process that the Artistic Director and the Audition Committee feel the need for closer discernment.

Since our first rehearsal will be held on August 29 (a departure from our regular schedule, which resumes in October), auditionees will be notified within one week of the audition. Music and assignments are passed out at the first rehearsal.
